A: Yes, for many situations acupuncture is very effective. It is a great adjunct to health care needs and works well in conjunction with Western and chiropractic medicine.  We have seen very difficult and complicated cases greatly improved or completely resolved with the use of acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine.
A: Acupuncture can create sensations, but for most people it isn’t usually painful. When the body is tight and bound there are sensations of it unbinding itself, most people find this to be a relaxing experience.
A: Absolutely, if being performed by a licensed acupuncturist. Acupuncture has been used safely in China and all around the world. All needles are sterile and single use only.
A: Pretty small, only 0.2 mm or less, about the size of a hair. They are single use sterile needles that slide smoothly through the skin.
A: We predominantly specialize in pain management and women’s health but can help treat a wide variety of pains and illnesses.
A: Absolutely! We currently accept Aetna, BlueCross BlueShield, CIGNA, OHP, Providence, Care Oregon, auto insurance, workman’s compensation. It is up to the patient to find out if their insurance covers acupuncture, if you need help- don’t be afraid to ask us.
A: Every situation is unique. Depending on the nature of the disorder it can usually take 3-10 treatments to see good results. A more acute condition could respond within 2-4 visits, while chronic pain or a more complicated illness could necessitate 10-12 treatments. We will work with your schedule and budget to create the most effective treatment plan for you.
A:  This also depends on the situation. For acute pain management we would like to see you twice a week for a short period of time (often 2-3 weeks). For chronic injury management we’d like to begin seeing you twice a week for the first 3-4 weeks and move on to every other week until the condition significantly changes. Once the primary reason for coming to acupuncture has been resolved, many patients choose to come once or twice a month for wellness and prevention.
A: Not always. For OHP, Care Oregon and Providence insurances you will require a referral.
A:  Please arrive a few minutes early to fill out an intake form. Once inside the treatment room you can expect a lengthy interview. You will then receive a 45-60 min treatment and information on how to heal and maintain whatever you came in to work on.
